Shopping: Buyer Beware – Epinions
July 30, 2007 on 1:12 am | In Shopping | No Comments
The first thing I have to say is thank goodness for this site. This site provides evaluations, opinions and reviews submitted by people on a wide range of products, services, merchants, manufacturers, books, movies, travel, music, cars and it just keeps going on. There’s been times where I wanted to buy a product that was cheaper at another online seller that I knew nothing about until I went to epinions and got the real deal on the seller. This site usually helps save one from the hassle of dealing with bad products or sellers. I may like lemons in my ice tea but I prefer to not get one in the form of a product.
I like their top ten lists for products especially when I don’t have too much time to go through pages of different models for a particular item. They also list their top reviewers in the different categories and I give my accolades to them.

Shopping: Bargain Shopping – Bargainist
July 29, 2007 on 7:03 pm | In Shopping | No Comments
Bargainist posts the latest bargain deals from internet promotions to brick and mortar establishments. It also has coupons and freebies that it finds. Its another good site to check for deals from a wide range of shopping needs. It has a professional interface which is very easy on the eyes and it is published by the umbrella company called Zombie Corp. Zombie Corp also runs two other sites catered to shopping for men and women. I’ll post more about those two sites separately.
Fashion: Celebrities fashion snafus – Go Fug Yourself
July 29, 2007 on 3:49 pm | In Beauty & Fashion | No Commentshttp://gofugyourself.typepad.com
There are days where even our celebrities look like they got up from the wrong side of the bed. When they do, we delight in seeing them in their most fuggly outfits. If you are interested in what “fug” means, do a search in urban dictionary, we can’t repeat it here but its a creative use of the english language.
Well, this is the blog dedicated solely to reporting on the latest fugs by our beloved celebrities. The bloggers unleash their funny sharped-tongue remarks on unsightly body parts accidentally or not so accidentally exposed, badly designed dresses & suits, color combinations that just don’t work, and hair and makeup that make Freddy Krueger win the beauty prize. It seems Bai Ling and Britney Spears tops the list of fuggly outfits but even the usually well dressed celebs hit a fug or two. Male celebrities are also not immune to the jabs of this blog with the biggest one that comes into everyone’s mind: K-Fed. Jude Law also shows up and he’s not known to win any Oscars for his fashion sense with his vests, nasty wife beater white t-shirts, and too tight pants.
The blog also mentions the celebs who do have fashion taste in their well played section. So, if you want to give your eyes a break, be sure to check that out too.

Each day a new product is put up for sale until 11:59 pm, afterwards a new product is posted. If you missed purchasing the product you will not be able to buy again until woot decides to sell it again. As stated in their about page, woot offers very limited customer service if any so be aware if you change your mind on your purchase, they will not provide refunds. Also if you get a defective product, woot usually recommends contacting the manufacturer to get a replacement. If you really do not want to go to the manufacturer, woot may provide a refund.
Career: Clear my career for a takeoff – CareerJet
July 26, 2007 on 2:29 am | In Career | No Comments
CareerJet is job aggregator site that pulls jobs from multiple sites. CareerJet provides a similar look and feel as Simplyhired with the simple keyword and location search boxes. One of the nice things about the site is: it provides some tabs on the same search page which gives a list of jobs by industry, U.S. locations, international locations, and personalized searches.
You enter your search criteria and it returns the matching job listings pulled from several sites. If you want more information on the job, you click the link and it will direct you to the actual job source which is external to CareerJet. In theory, this should make your job search more efficient. Don’t get us wrong, we like these sites a lot but we noticed some job listings would be broken links which would take us to the source but the job no longer exists.

Keep in mind, the information sent to the temporary email is not protected so do not use it for personal or sensitive information.

Travel: How about a private pool? – VRBO
July 25, 2007 on 4:29 am | In Travel | No Comments
VRBO stands for Vacation Rentals By Owner. It’s similar to VacationHomeRentals.com but has been around for longer and has more listings. The database search facilities are not very user friendly, but by the sheer volume of listings you wont mind hunting through to find what you’re looking for. In the end you’re looking for a nice place to stay with a kitchen, a place to do laundry, and perhaps a private pool. Again, make sure to call and talk to a real person before you book.

It was started by 20 year old Brian Benzinger in 2005. he products and services profiled are usually for personal productivity and the site has a clean and professional looking interface. Some of the internet companies profiled are not mentioned in TechCrunch. One of my favorite ones is his review of MyMileMarker which is a site to record and analyze auto gas consumption. Another one is Competitious which is used for analyzing your competitor.
I’ll let you visit his site to get the details of those sites mentioned above and many more.
Travel: Why pay for a hotel? – VacationHomeRentals
July 25, 2007 on 3:24 am | In Travel | No Comments
When you have a large party, typically you end up having to book two or more hotel rooms. That can add up quickly, especially if you’re going for a week or more. If you plan ahead you can save quite a bit, plus get a kitchen, a place to do laundry, and friendly personal service to top it off. Often these vacation properties are managed directly by the owners and they give it their personal touch and attention.
VacationHomeRentals.com posts ads for vacation properties for a small fee charged to the property lister. For you and me, it’s free. I like it when the availability is posted directly on the site. It’s quite annoying having to contact them by email and wait for a response. The more pictures the better, but more important are pictures of the actual place, especially a picture of each bed they claim to have.
Unfortunately it’s hard to get good independent reviews of these properties. There’s no way to tell if the reviews provided are truly independent or just the owner’s posting. But there’s no substitute for calling and talking to a real person when booking a place. It’s an absolute must. It’s amazing how much you can tell from listening to someone’s voice.
Tech: TechCrunch
July 25, 2007 on 2:54 am | In Technology | No Comments
TechCrunch is a weblog which covers the latest internet companies and it also provides news on existing ones. TechCrunch usually has the first dibs on the newest companies and does a good job reporting on them. For example, they recently covered 9 different social networking sites and created a detailed matrix comparing them to each other. Now that’s going above and beyond, whoever did that gets an A+ with a red smiley face.
If you look at the list of internet startups or areas they have covered (under company names), its a huge list with a lot of funny sounding names like Auctomatic, sloggen, slapvid (I didn’t check this site out so I hope its not some site I wouldn’t want a kid to see), zingee, zipingo, and the weirdo sounding names keep going on. Damm Web 2.0. So if you want to get the last zingee on the last zipingo without a lot of sloggen, check out TechCrunch.
