If you are nosy about what others are making and want to get the real scoop on a company, Glassdoor provides that see-through peek to satisfy your curiosity.  Its in the beginning stages, there are quite a few salary postings and working stiff commentary on the work environment for Microsoft, Yahoo, and Google.  For example, in the Microsoft section, there are hundreds of reviews of the company along with the rating of the employee satisfaction, satisfaction with the CEO, and a full salary breakdown based on title. You can get a preview to see some of the salaries and part of the comments but in order to get full access to the content, you will need to register.  The posts you write are anonymous; supposedly you get to hide behind a cloak and dagger and say what’s on your mind.  Its another site to put in your career tool bag as it gives you the inside scoop without a whole lot of digging around.

Career: Clear my career for a takeoff - CareerJet

http://www.careerjet.com/images/logo_ws_home_us.gif CareerJet is job aggregator site that pulls jobs from multiple sites. CareerJet provides a similar look and feel as Simplyhired with the simple keyword and location search boxes. One of the nice things about the site is: it provides some tabs on the same search page which gives a list of jobs by industry, U.S. locations, international locations, and personalized searches.

You enter your search criteria and it returns the matching job listings pulled from several sites.  If you want more information on the job, you click the link and it will direct you to the actual job source which is external to CareerJet.  In theory, this should make your job search more efficient.  Don’t get us wrong, we like these sites a lot but we noticed some job listings would be broken links which would take us to the source but the job no longer exists.

Career: Page Bites

Another job search aggegator with the same interface as indeed. When you get the search results, it provides the date of the job posting as well as when it expires. It also provides matching resumes for some of the job results which I am not sure if its for employers or for job seekers to see what candidates are qualified for the job. However, the matching resumes didn’t always match to the particular job so if anyone knows what the purpose of this is, drop me a note or submit a comment.

Career: Gimme my money! - Indeed

Indeed

Your latest salary increase just isn’t keeping up with the inflation so the smart person that you are, you update your resume, dust off your suit, start going through your network in Linkedin, and access a site like indeed to get the salary increase you deserve.

Indeed is a job site aggregator that searches multiple job sites so you don’t need to go to each one separately which means you will find your next job faster. It seems that indeed may not aggregate and pull as many jobs as Simplyhired (another job search aggregator), it has the same basic features such as filtering your results, searching by distance, and etc.

Here are some of the features which stood out:

  • The job trends feature graphs based on the keyword you enter and shows the demand for those skills or jobs. For example, if you are interested in finding out the trend for social networking jobs, it will generate a graph of the percentage of matching postings. It looks like the future
  • The salary search feature which gives an average salary based on the keyword and related job salaries. As an example, it looks like a nurse in Michigan state earns on average $66K a year. Even better is a nurse anesthetist in New York City who earns on average $159K a year but that might not mean much since it costs a pretty penny to live around NYC.

Career: Moving onto greener pastures - Simplyhired

Simplyhired Simplyhired is a job aggregator site that pulls jobs from many different job sites and boards. It’s a good tool to have in your job search arsenal.
Here are some of their nifty features:

  • They have a specialty search feature where you can find jobs with companies that are friendly towards a group with certain characteristics like age+50, pet owners, women, gays, and etc.
  • Once you get your search results, they have a search filter on the left side of the window that narrows it down further by company, location, and job type.
  • Let’s say you want to relocate to another state but you want to move to a city within the state that has the most jobs. No problemo, you can view the number of jobs by title, location, company, and industry by selecting the Browse tab on the main page.
