Mashable is a weblog that reports on the latest news in social networking. Here you will find out about the new social networking sites along with the news on the current popular ones. The current popular social networking sites covered are: MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, Xanga, and Bebo. Mashable has a section called Mashcodes which provides the latest widgets, generators, graphics, and layouts to pimp out your MySpace, Xanga, or Piczo pages. One of my favorites on this site are the postings by Sean Aune which gives lists of tools that are handy for various personal productivity needs such as online storage, wordpress admin, and Firefox add-ons for security & privacy to list just a few.
This is a site with a large user base and for readers who visit the site, you will not be disappointed.

This is a must read for all you Google Map freaks.

This is a blog dedicated to blogging about Google Maps and all the mashups generated from it. The author has the pulse on the latest happenings with Google Maps and talks about the latest tools. There’s an exhaustive list of mashups which makes you wonder what hasn’t been done with Google Maps…(for some things I really don’t want to know). There’s mashups of dating, sex offenders, sport team locators, triathlons, historical landmarks, locations that serve beer, and it just doesn’t stop here.

http://www.frappr.com/i/frappr_nav.gif Frappr (sounds kind of like Frapple huh?), is a Google maps mashup that allows users to create custom maps of their location and to personalize it by adding their homepage, picture of themselves, and personal information. Those maps can also be embedded into their website. When you go to the About page, it was started by three college friends in 2005 and there are about 2 million Frappr maps created.

Mashups: Visual classifieds – Listpic

Listpic displays the classifieds pulled from Craigslist and presents the pictures of the classifieds. So instead of viewing the classifieds in text, you see the pictures first. I like to use it for furniture since the text description may say barely used Crate and Barrel green couch but if you see the picture first of a beat up mustard green couch, it will save you some time from clicking on the link and then finding out what it really is.

http://www.platial.com/images/logotype.gif Its a interesting name that conjures up images of tasty food. Ok, I’m strange. Platial is a google maps mashup site that gives users the ability to easily create maps for particular locations that of interest to them. For example, if you are planning a trip to a city, you can use Platial to map out the hotel you are staying at, the museums, landmarks, restaurants, and clubs. You can also use it to let your family and friends know where you are. Google has launched a similar service called MyMaps this year (2007) so hopefully this site and others like it will survive.
